PrivateBus: Privacy Identification and Protection in Large-Scale Bus WiFi Systems
summary
Analysis of 20 million connection records and 78 million location records from 770,000 bus WiFi users measures re-identification risk and a defense. A PB-FIND algorithm uses three hash maps, candidate pruning and iterative minimization to show 97.8% of users are unique with four domain records, 96.2% with five bus locations, and 98.1% with two mixed records. A PB-HIDE defense inserts 1.5% synthetic records targeted by overlap to protect >95% of users while preserving utility.
