Subtitle scan of 97,709 movies and manual review of scenes from 2,851 films finds 5,982 occurrences of “password”; password managers appear in one film and MFA only seven times. Movies show lots of reuse and sharing, depict guessing with a ~47% success rate and hacking/social attacks with ~81% success, and include both very weak and surprisingly strong passwords while password strength has little effect on on-screen attack outcomes.
