"Violation of my body:" Perceptions of AI-generated non-consensual (intimate) imagery
summary
Survey of 315 U.S. respondents conducted on Prolific (Dec 2023) tests acceptability of AI-generated non-consensual intimate imagery across scenarios that vary creator (friend/partner/stranger), action (sexual vs benign), and intent. Results show strong opposition to creation and especially sharing, but seeking out more acceptable than creation/sharing for many; men rate creation/sharing as more acceptable; higher consent-support scores predict lower acceptability. Analysis uses cumulative linked mixed models plus qualitative coding. Recommendations include deterrence messaging on searches and consent education.
