Frictio implements passive kinesthetic force feedback for rotational smart-ring input using a 3D-printed prototype with an inner and outer race, 18 embedded magnets, two hall sensors, a proximity sensor, a brake pad and a motorized rack to vary friction. Six force profiles — Hard Stop, Bump, Ramp-Up, Ramp-Down, Resistant Force, No Force — map to interactions; a lab study shows 94% average profile recognition (94.1% secondary-task accuracy). Prototype works but motor size is a clear miniaturization bottleneck.
