Open-source assignment from The Hague University builds a grid map with terrain movement costs, city prices and cargo capacity and produces a trading bot that actually buys, moves and sells to maximize profit. Students start with naïve brute force and backtracking, hit combinatorial explosion, then implement A search, Dijkstra-style shortest paths and an Ant Race heuristic to prune routes. A fitness function scores profit per movement point; depth-limited decision trees and parameter tuning cut compute time and produce repeatable profitable routes on realistic test maps.
