ShareVR: Enabling Co-Located Experiences for Virtual Reality between HMD and Non-HMD Users
summary
ShareVR is a proof-of-concept system that uses HTC Vive + Lighthouse tracking, two floor projectors and a controller-mounted mobile display to show the HMD scene to couch users and let them interact. Design comes from an online survey (n=48) and a lab study (n=16) comparing ShareVR to a baseline third‑person controller view; single‑item measures show significant increases in enjoyment, presence and social interaction for both HMD and non‑HMD users though GQ subscales are non‑significant. Three implemented experiences (collaborative “fairy and knight” dungeon, competitive hide‑in‑boxes, sandbox) demonstrate feasibility and reveal design guidelines.
