Vibrosight uses a steerable mirror, a red laser and a PIN photodiode to read vibrations off retro-reflective tags placed on objects, sensing reliably up to 16 meters with a 5 kHz sample rate. A round‑robin scanner collects 0.5–3s of vibration per tag and achieves 98.4% object-usage detection and 92.1% object recognition in trials; it also detects knocks, typing, and human movement. Limitations include required line of sight and slower refresh with many tags.
