eSim: Building an Open-Source EDA Ecosystem for Edu, R&D, and Community Innovation
summary
eSim packages ngspice, KiCad, GHDL, Verilator and Python/PyQt5 tooling into a usable EDA chain, supports mix-signal simulation, PCB auto-routing and device models, and integrates the SkyWater Sky130 PDK for flow-to-tapeout. A cloud build and a local AI chatbot for design/debug are under development. Community results include 20,000+ marathon registrations per event, nine designs sent for tape-out, a growing repo with 600+ contributed circuits and about 50 interns contributing code and tutorials.
