EROFS implements fixed-sized output compression and multiple decompression modes including in-place decompression and small per-CPU buffer decompression; it uses FIO microbenchmarks on an ARM board and two Huawei phones for evaluation. Compared to squashfs, it cuts read amplification by over 80%, reduces decompression memory use roughly 90%, improves real app boot times up to 22.9%, and nearly halves system-storage used by read-only resources. The filesystem is production-deployed on tens of millions of smartphones and shows comparable or better throughput.
