SWAN partitions an all-flash array into spatial separation front-end SSDs that absorb app writes and back-end SSDs that perform GC, implemented in the host block layer and tested on up to nine SSDs (evaluations use 8 SSD RAID setups and open-channel monitoring). It uses segment-based append-only layout plus trim-of-segments to keep GC work confined to back-end drives; analytic sizing guides front/back ratios. Results show sustained aggregate throughput up to NIC limits while RAID‑0 and conventional layouts see large GC-induced drops.
