Scalio is a DPU-based JBOF key-value store that bypasses weak ARM cores by using NVMe-oF Target Offload for SSD I/O and one-sided RDMA for cache access, adds batched writes to reduce issued IO, and enforces linearizability with an RDMA-based cache consistency protocol that marks cache slots with a two-bit occupied/complete state to represent an “incomplete” fill. Implemented on a node with seven Samsung SSDs and 8-core DPUs, Scalio sustains up to 3.3× higher throughput than prior DPU systems across YCSB workloads while fully utilizing SSD bandwidth.
