SMRSTORE is a log-structured user-space engine that writes chunk records directly to zoned HM-SMR drives via zoned block I/O, implements per-zone in-memory index groups, and applies three workload-aware guided data placement strategies to separate streams and reduce GC. Evaluation shows parity with Ext4 on CMR, 2.16× faster than F2FS on SMR (up to 2.35× with placement), supports large object writes ≥64 KB, cuts OSS storage cost by ~15%, and is deployed for hundreds of PB.
