Patronus: High-Performance and Protective Remote Memory
summary
PATRONUS implements a protective RDMA remote-memory system that preserves one-sided access while using memory windows and tokenized permissions to enforce fine-grained access. It attaches microsecond-scaled leases and offloads lease refresh to clients via one-sided writes, reclaims orphan permissions automatically, and masks QP errors with QP overprovisioning that promotes spare QPs on failure. Built and evaluated on a 4-machine testbed across remote hash table, B+ tree and FaaS workloads, it shows 2.4%–27.7% protection overhead and up to 5.2× throughput vs. prior protected systems.
