WHY A WHOLE COUNTRY SKIPPED A DAY: FUN WITH TIMEZONES AND LOCALES

on YouTube ↗42m

" summary

Shows concrete failures and fixes: Nintendo tournaments break when DST shifts; Android gets ICU4J only from Android 7 so timezone/locale behavior differs across devices; JVM tzdb versions vary by JRE and must be patched on servers; recommended libraries are Joda Time or ThreeTenABP (JSR-310 backport) for reliable handling. Gives the standout example that Samoa skipped Dec 30 2011—moving across the International Date Line to align with New Zealand/Australia and gain much longer business overlap.
