A Happy Little Accident
summary
A BMP image painted in GIMP becomes a raw .com program by saving a 102‑byte bitmap, renaming it to helloworld.com and running it under DOSBox. The file size and layout are carefully chosen so the BMP header plus painted bytes form valid x86 machine code; the filename hits DOS 8.3 limits so it appears as HELLO~1.COM. The result is a working “Hello World” printed from a bitmap-turned-executable.
