STEAM is a Java-based co-simulation framework that couples optimized magnet, circuit and controller solvers via an automated model generator and a hierarchical co-simulation state machine. It models CERN-scale systems (LHC: 1,200 superconducting magnets, 12,000 A, 23 km) and multiscale quenches (microns to kilometers, microseconds to minutes) by iterating current and distributed resistance until convergence. Built tooling includes GitLab CI, SonarQube, Docker and JFrog; a superconducting magnet co-simulation is implemented and demonstrates the approach on real quench propagation and protection scenarios.
