FlacIO: Flat and Collective I/O for Container Image Service
summary
FlacIO implements a new runtime image abstraction plus a kernel runtime page cache and a userland FlacIO driver to replace storage-oriented images with memory-oriented service images. The prototype records I/O (io-checker), generates deduplicated runtime images in a registry, and injects pages at cold start; it cuts cold startup latency up to 23× vs full-image and 4.6× vs lazy loading, uses ~5% extra storage, reduces network traffic and memory footprint, and yields 2.25× and 1.7× speedups on object-store and ML workloads.
