The Hugh Thompson Show: Backyard Edition
summary
At a last‑minute CES push Apple needs a disk demo; an engineer reverse‑engineers a 5" Shugart drive and builds a floppy disk controller out of a state machine using two $1 chips, invents a way to read and write without standard floppy chips, works all night, and has disked software running for the show, proving color, software‑based games and home disk storage are practical and marketable.
