Building an Offline Page for theguardian.com

Built an offline page for theguardian.com in under a day using service workers, priming a cache then intercepting requests with a network-first then cache strategy for HTML and a cache-first strategy for immutable assets. The offline page serves a crossword in React and updates by versioned caches while avoiding CDN interleaving bugs with a cache manifest. Works on HTTPS sections, limited by browser support and early bugs (Chrome redirect showing offline page, Firefox cookie drops) that required workarounds.
