Keynote: When Wasm Meets Cyber-Physical Systems: A Discussion of WebAssembly in Real-Time, Safety-Critical Systems

links:none on file
slides:none on file

Bosch Research prototypes use WebAssembly as ultra‑light virtualization across ECUs, PLCs and edge servers, building a Silverline runtime and a waxing WebAssembly→ControlX interface that runs on both PLCs and edge nodes. A demo offloads control of an inverted pendulum to an edge-hosted WASM module and keeps it upright; fault tolerance uses hot‑standby failover across two edge servers. Remaining gaps: no standard checkpointing, tiny ECU limits on component model tooling, and a heavy safety‑certification path.
