Extreme Makeover - Rubygems Edition
summary
Describes a concrete rewrite of Rubygems and Bundler that replaces the old client server interactions with a rewritten client/server protocol and local index caching, reducing round trips and speeding installs. Demonstrates the actual tools and patches used, shows measured install times falling and request counts dropping, and proves that the new server responses enable mirror enabled distribution so rubygems org can be mirrored worldwide and resiliently serve global clients.
