Cloning Twitter: Rails + Cassandra = Scalable Sharing

Prototype Twitter clone uses Rails plus Cassandra; code work shows tradeoffs not hype. Uses the Cassandra gem with a small ORM on top, leverages ActiveModel, handles get/multi_get/insert/remove, and deals with Cassandra Thrift quirks. Key operational details: data is keyed and pre-sorted, secondary indexes are limited, super columns exist, and scalability tuning is through replication factor vs consistency factor choices. Prototype mostly works but isn’t demo-ready.
