Surprise Talk: The Origin Story
summary
A conference that begins as a joke becomes real: organizers spin a CFP with a requirement of three exclamation marks, build a single-track event in a few months, and secure space at the Recurse Center. They register the domain for five-year domain registration (and briefly own a misspelled variant), collect sponsor checks that end up written to Bang Bang Corn LLC, and end the weekend with an explicitly inclusive program and operational badges, restrooms, and a safe learning space.
