summary
A method for retiring long lived systems that claims a deliberate final sequence rather than abandonment: a 23 year old app is finally finished with DNS taken down, a 23 year database preserved, and final code scattered across four version control instances from three companies. The process stops heroic fixes, exports customer records, winds down alerts integrations billing and servers, and marks the end with a ritual summarized as announce freeze export. The talk gives those concrete steps and tradeoffs.
